Brake replacement means fitting new pads and discs so the car stops the way it should. Pads are the friction material that presses against the disc, and both wear down every time you brake. Once they are too thin the car takes longer to stop, which matters most in the wet or in an emergency.
Brakes wear gradually, so it is easy to miss how much stopping power you have lost. Squeaking or grinding, a soft or spongy pedal, vibration through the pedal when you slow down, or the car pulling to one side are all worth getting checked. Leaving worn pads too long lets them score the discs, which turns a small job into a bigger bill.
When you bring the car in we check pad thickness, disc wear and condition, the calipers, and the brake fluid, then tell you what actually needs doing. We do not replace parts that are still fine. If only the pads are worn we say so, and if the discs are scored or below the wear limit we explain why they need changing too.

How long does brake replacement take?+
A standard pad and disc job is usually done the same day. We will confirm once we know your vehicle and what it needs.

Will you check the rest of the braking system?+
Always. We inspect calipers, fluid and lines so you are not back in a month for something we could have caught.
Do I have to replace the discs as well as the pads?+
Not always. If the discs are still within the wear limit and not scored or warped, we can fit new pads on their own. If the discs are worn down, grooved or causing vibration, pads alone will not fix it and we will explain why. We check both when you bring the car in and only replace what the car actually needs.
Why are my brakes squeaking or grinding?+
Squeaking often means the pads are getting low or there is dust and glazing on them. Grinding usually means the pads have worn right down and metal is contacting the disc, which can damage the disc fast. Either way it is worth getting checked. Bring the car in and we will look at the pads, discs and calipers before quoting any work.
